OGC Calls for Participation in Geo4NIEM Initiative to enhance geospatial capabilities for the the US National Information Exchange Model (NIEM)

The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC®) has issued a Request for Quotations/Call for Participation (RFQ/CFP) to solicit proposals in response to requirements for the OGC Geo4NIEM Project. The Geo4NIEM Initiative will result in recommendations to enhance the geospatial capabilities within the National Information Exchange Model (NIEM).Sponsors have identified specific Information Exchange Packages (IEPs) from Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Justice/Law Enforcement domain, and the Maritime domain as representative examples for investigation in this initiative. The Justice/Law Enforcement domain in NIEM is defined by the Global Justice XML Data Model (Global JXDM).The Maritime domain supports the effective understanding of anything associated with global maritime that could impact the United States security, safety, economy, or environment.

OGC calls for comments on netCDF Uncertainty Conventions Discussion Paper

7 February 2013 – The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) seeks comments on an OGC discussion paper, netCDF Uncertainty Conventions (netCDF-U) 1.0.This discussion paper proposes a set of conventions for managing uncertainty information within the netCDF classic (also known as netCDF3) data model and format. The main mechanism for modeling uncertainty in netCDF-U files consists of annotating the netCDF data variables with uncertainty-related semantics based on the Uncertainty Markup Language (UncertML) dictionary.(A netCDF data set may be compliant with more than one convention.)This discussion paper may relate to other OGC standards and discussion papers that make use of the netCDF3 data format.

The OGC announces Call for Participation in MilOps Geospatial Interoperability Experiment

31 January 2013 – The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) has announced a Call for Participation (CFP) in the OGC MilOps Geospatial Interoperability Experiment (MOGIE).The purpose of this experiment is to ensure interoperability of the MilOps Domain with the OGCs geospatial standards and with tools built on those standards. The OGC members that are acting as initiators of the Interoperability Experiment are:National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA)MITREGeorgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) (http://www.gtri.gatech.edu)Expressions of interest for participation are due by 4 March 2013.Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) is also one of the organizations that will be participating in the Interoperability Experiment. An OGC Interoperability Experiment is a rapid, low overhead, formally structured OGC-facilitated activity in which members achieve specific technical objectives that further the OGC Technical Baseline.

The OGC requests comments on the OWS Context Conceptual Model and ATOM Extension candidate standards

18 January 2013 – The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC®) is seeking comments on the OGC OWS Context Conceptual Model and the associated ATOM Extension document candidate standards. The OGC OWS Context Conceptual Model describes the use cases, requirements and conceptual data model of an OGC Web Services Context Document.A context document (OWS Context) defines a fully configured set of OGC services to be consistently shared, interpreted and invoked by clients. An OGC Web Services Context Document (OWS Context) enables a set of configured information resources (service set) to be passed between applications as a collection of services. The OGC OWS Context Conceptual Model and the associated ATOM Extension document candidate standards are available for public review and comment at http://www.opengeospatial.org/standards/requests/96.

Lockheed Martin awarded the OGC’s Distinguished Member Award

At the January meeting of the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC(R)) in Redlands, California, Lockheed Martin, a global security and aerospace company, was awarded the Open Geospatial Consortiums (OGC) Distinguished Member Award. The OGC Distinguished Member Award was established by the OGC in 2011 to recognize OGC member organizations that have made substantial, positive and sustained impacts on one or more areas of OGC mission accomplishment through a high level of commitment beyond traditional member engagement. The award was granted by the OGC Board to Lockheed Martin in recognition of Lockheed Martins strategic commitment to advancing the mission objectives of the Open Geospatial Consortium. All OGC stakeholders owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to Lockheed Martin and the Lockheed Martin personnel responsible for these contributions.By deploying OGC standards compliant solutions we enable life saving location based information to be shared.

The OGC announces Wide Area Motion Imagery Best Practices Document

14 January 2013 – The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC®) has adopted the OGC Wide Area Motion Imagery Best Practices Document (WAMI BP) as an official OGC Best Practice. The OGC WAMI Best Practices Document recommends a set of Web service interfaces for the dissemination of Wide Area Motion Imagery (WAMI) products. The service interfaces described in the OGC WAMI Best Practices Document are designed to be modular and extensible. The grammar draws heavily from existing OGC standards. The candidate OGC WAMI Best Practices document is available and free to the public at http://www.opengeospatial.org/standards/bp.

The OGC Seeks Comments on Candidate GeoPackage Standard

8 January 2013 – The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC®) seeks public comments on the current draft of the candidate OGC GeoPackage (GPKG) Standard. The GPKG Standards Working Group will consider all comments when preparing a final draft of the candidate standard. The candidate OGC GeoPackage (GPKG) Standard provides an open, non-proprietary, platform-independent container for distribution and direct use of all kinds of geospatial data.Future enhancements to the GeoPackage standard, a future GeoPackage Web Service standard, and modifications to existing OGC Web Service (OWS) standards to use GeoPackages as exchange formats will allow OWS to support provisioning of GeoPackages throughout an enterprise or information community. The current draft of the candidate OGC GeoPackage (GPKG) Standard can be downloaded from http://www.opengeospatial.org/standards/requests/95.

OGC Announces Energy Mapping GovFuture Webinar

OGC standards support interoperable solutions that geo-enable the Web, wireless and location-based services, and mainstream IT.OGC standards empower technology developers to make geospatial information and services accessible and useful with any application that needs to be geospatially enabled.Directions Media was founded in 1998 as Directions Magazine, which continues to be the flagship publication.Directions Magazine was the first regularly published online magazine covering geospatial technology.Today Directions Media maintains several online publications including Directions Magazine and the All Points Blog and offers conferences including Location Intelligence and GEO Huntsville.

OGC Calls for Sponsors for 10th Major Interoperability Testbed

The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC®) has issued a call for sponsors of the 10th annual OGC Web Services Testbed (OWS-10) (http://www.opengeospatial.org/projects/initiatives/ows-10).Sponsors of OGC testbeds provide interoperability requirements that drive rapid development, testing and delivery of proven candidate standards into the OGC Standards Program.- OGC Web Services (OWS) innovations: New OGC compliance tests and improved interoperability for mobile device apps that use OGC standards in providing location services. At this meeting, potential sponsors will review the OGC standards baseline, discuss OWS-9 outcomes, and capture initial OWS-10 requirements and plans.Sponsors of OGC Interoperability Program initiatives provide requirements, use/business cases and funding for OGC testbeds and pilot projects.
