The OGC Forms IndoorGML Indoor Location Standards Working Group

The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC®) announced the formation of a new OGC Technical Committee Standards Working Group (SWG) to advance the candidate OGC IndoorGML Standard.This SWG aims to provide a common schema framework for interoperability between indoor navigation applications, which cover a wide spectrum of application areas such as indoor LBS, indoor web map services, indoor emergency control, guiding services for visually handicapped persons in indoor space, and indoor robotics.In order to meet the market demands from these application areas, we need indoor navigation information as an essential component.OGC Standards support interoperable solutions that geo-enable the Web, wireless and location-based services, and mainstream IT.OGC Standards empower technology developers to make geospatial information and services useful with any application that needs to be geospatially enabled.

The OGC seeks comment on WaterML 2.0 Hydrologic Time Series Encoding Standard

17 January 2012 – The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC®) seeks public comment on the candidate OGC WaterML 2.0: part 1 – Time Series Encoding Standard.WaterML 2.0 is a candidate Open Geospatial Consortium standard for the representation of hydrological observations, specifically addressing time series data.The WaterML 2.0 candidate standard is implemented as an application schema of the OGC Geography Markup Language (GML) Encoding Standard version 3.2.1 and makes use of the OGC Observations and Measurements (O&M) model and encoding standards.The OGC WaterML 2.0 candidate standard supports encoding of hydrological and hydrogeological observation data in exchange scenarios such as: exchange of data for operational monitoring and forecasting programs; supporting operation of infrastructure (e.g.The candidate OGC WaterML Version 2.0 standard documents are available for public review and comment at http://www.opengeospatial.org/standards/requests/85Comments are due by 17 February 2012.

Jeffrey K. Harris Elected Chairman of the OGC Board of Directors

The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC(R)) Board of Directors has unanimously elected The Honorable Jeffrey K. Harris as Chairman of the Board of the Open Geospatial Consortium.Mr. Harris succeeds OGC Founder David Schell, who will continue to serve as Chairman Emeritus.He is now a private consultant to both industry and government on geospatial and space technology programs.OGC standards support interoperable solutions that geo-enable the Web, wireless and location-based services, and mainstream IT.OGC Standards empower technology developers to make geospatial information and services useful with any application that needs to be geospatially enabled.

The OGC seeks comment on GeoSynchronization Best Practices

7 December 2011 – The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC®) seeks public comment on the candidate OGC GeoSynchronization Best Practices Document.Frequently, geospatial content providers must collaborate with outside entities to collect new data and/or update their existing data holdings.This document defines an OGC Best Practice on a particular technology or approach related to OGC standards.The candidate OGC GeoSynchronization Best Practices document is available for public review and comment at http://www.opengeospatial.org/standards/requests/84.Submit comments on the candidate Best Practices document to requests [at] lists.opengeospatial.org.

OGC Announces Webinar – How the OGCs CityGML Standard Supports 3D Innovation for Business and Government

The title of the webinar is, How the OGC’s CityGML Standard Supports 3D Innovation for Business and Government: Developments achieved in the Netherlands including use cases from the City of Rotterdam.Attendees will learn about the 3D Pilot NL (http://www.opengeospatial.org/pressroom/pressreleases/1503), an award-winning collaborative pilot project to establish a national standard for 3D geo-information in the Netherlands.The Netherlands 3D standard is an implementation of the OGC CityGML Standard (http://www.opengeospatial.org/standards/citygml) (see also http://www.citygml.org/index.php?id=1531), which is based on the OGC GML (Geography Markup Language) Standard.By joining CityGML with the existing national 2D standards framework, 3D Pilot NL laid the groundwork for one of the worlds most comprehensive national 3D geo-information infrastructures.OGC standards support interoperable solutions that geo-enable the Web, wireless and location-based services, and mainstream IT.

OGC 3DIM honors 3D Pilot NL with OGC 3D award

During the well-attended OGC 3D Summit in Boulder, Colorado the first ever OGC 3DIM Award was given to the 3D Pilot NL, a unique network of over 65 private, public and scientific organizations who collaborated to push 3D developments in the Netherlands.With this award the 3D Pilot team is recognized for its significant accomplishments in aligning national and international standards for 3D content data sharing.The pilot project established the groundwork for one of the worlds most comprehensive national 3D geo-information programs.The mission of the OGC 3D Information Management (3DIM) Domain Working Group is to facilitate the definition and development of standards for sharing and accessing 3D geo-information.3D Pilot continuesThe next phase of the 3D Pilot NL started in October 2011.

OGC and USGIF Announce WhereCon 2012 to be held in Washington, DC
