OGC seeks comment on candidate Earth observation profile of coverage standard

The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC®) seeks public comment on the candidate Earth Observation profile for the OGC Web Coverage Services (WCS) 2.0 standard.This profile will facilitate on-line data access to Earth observation data products.The OGC WCS 2.0 standard defines a general interface and operations that enable interoperable access to geospatial coverages., such as sensor data, satellite imagery, digital elevation models, and climate/ocean data.The candidate OGC Web Coverage Services Application Profile for Earth Observation Sensors (EO-WCS) defines an interface for interoperable access to Earth Observation data.The candidate Earth Observation profile for the OGC Web Coverage Services (WCS) 2.0 standard documents are available for review and comment at http://www.opengeospatial.org/standards/requests/81.

OGC Seeks Comment on candidate GeoSPARQL standard

The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC®) seeks public comment on the candidate OGC “GeoSPARQL: A Geographic Query Language for RDF Data” Standard.The candidate OGC GeoSPARQL standard defines spatial extensions to the W3Cs SPARQL protocol and RDF query language.The OGC GeoSPARQL standard supports representing and querying geospatial data on the Semantic Web, and it provides the foundational geospatial vocabulary for linked data involving location.GeoSPARQL defines a vocabulary for representing geospatial data in RDF, and it defines an extension to SPARQL for processing geospatial data.The candidate OGC GeoSPARQL Standard documents are available for review and comment at http://www.opengeospatial.org/standards/requests/80.

OGC Seeks Comment on Geography Markup Language 3.3 Standard

The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC®) seeks public comment on the candidate version 3.3 of the OGC Geography Markup Language (GML).GML has come into wide use since it was first adopted as an OGC standard in 2001 (http://www.ogcnetwork.net/gmlprofiles for examples).The candidate OGC GML v3.3 Standard documents are available for review and comment at http://www.opengeospatial.org/standards/requests/79.OGC Standards support interoperable solutions that geo-enable the Web, wireless and location-based services, and mainstream IT.OGC Standards empower technology developers to make geospatial information and services accessible and useful with any application that needs to be geospatially enabled.

OGC completes airspace information sharing pilot

30 June 2011 – The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC®) announced successful completion of the Special Activity Airspace (SAA) Dissemination Pilot.OGC Web Service standards specify open and widely used geospatial interfaces that support communication of geospatial information in Service Oriented Architecture (SOA)-based systems.Videos and presentations from the June 2 SAA Dissemination Pilot demonstrations are available at http://www.opengeospatial.org/pub/www/saa/index.html.OGC Interoperability Initiatives are designed to encourage rapid development, testing, validation and adoption of OGC standards.OGC Standards empower technology developers to make geospatial information and services accessible and useful with any application that needs to be geospatially enabled.

The OGC elects Jacqueline McGlade to board of directors

Professor Jacqueline McGlade, Executive Director of the European Environment Agency, was recently elected to the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC®) board of directors.Professor Jacqueline McGlade is Executive Director of the European Environment Agency.David Schell, Chairman of the OGC Board of Directors, said, The OGC community is extremely fortunate that Jacqueline McGlade has agreed to serve on the Consortium’s board.OGC standards support interoperable solutions that geo-enable the Web, wireless and location-based services, and mainstream IT.OGC standards empower technology developers to make geospatial information and services accessible and useful with any application that needs to be geospatially enabled.

OGC workshops at the INSPIRE Conference 2011

24 June 2011 – The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC®) announced that OGC staff and members will be involved in three workshops at the INSPIRE Conference 2011.Steven Ramage, an Executive Director from the OGC will participate in this afternoon workshop with a talk, Beyond interoperability: What does interoperability enable?Workshop 2: INSPIRE and open standards for sustainable growth, Tuesday 28th June, 9:00-10:30, will be moderated by OGC staff, Steven Ramage and Athina Trakas, Director of European Services.Workshop 3: SDI Workshop: ESDIN Lessons, Tuesday 28th June, 11:00 – 12:30, organized by Arnulf Christl (metaspatial), an independent consultant and formerly ESDIN Technical Coordinator, and Athina Trakas from the OGC.OGC standards empower technology developers to make geospatial information and services accessible and useful with any application that needs to be geospatially enabled.

OGC seeks comment on PUCK standard for sensors and transducers

23 June 2010 – The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC®) seeks public comment on the candidate OGC PUCK Protocol Encoding Standard.PUCK addresses these challenges by defining a standard instrument protocol to retrieve metadata and other information from the device itself.The OGC Technical Committee’s PUCK Standards Working Group was chartered to process the existing MBARI PUCK protocol as a candidate OGC standard compatible with the OGC Sensor Web Enablement (SWE) standards baseline.The candidate OGC PUCK Standard documents are available for review and comment at http://www.opengeospatial.org/standards/requests/78 .OGC Standards support interoperable solutions that geo-enable the Web, wireless and location-based services, and mainstream IT.

The OGC elects Sanjay Kumar to board of directors

Sanjay Kumar, Chief Executive Officer of GIS Development, was recently elected to the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC®) board of directors.He actively collaborates with global geospatial organisations and is publisher of Geospatial World magazine and founder of the Map World Forum, a global geospatial industry event.David Schell, Chairman of the OGC Board of Directors, said, “No one has done more than Sanjay Kumar to introduce modern, networked geospatial technologies into the operations of Asian institutions.He is eminently qualified to enlighten and support the OGC in its understanding of Asian requirements and we are very pleased to have him on the OGC board of directors.Sanjay Kumar said, “The OGC has contributed significantly towards developing an open and interoperable environment amongst technologies associated with the geospatial industry.

The OGC Appoints Industry Leaders to Board of Directors

Of the 19 elected members of the consortium’s 2009-2010 board of directors, 17 serving members were re-elected and two new members have been seated.The new OGC board members are Jacqueline McGlade and Sanjay Kumar.Pursuing his belief in the importance of the geospatial industry, he has been working towards raising the awareness and profile of the industry through political and administrative leadership worldwide, and working to connect the geospatial industry with other important industries.He actively collaborates with global geospatial organisations and is publisher of Geospatial World magazine and founder of the Map World Forum, a global geospatial industry event.David Schell, Chairman of the OGC Board of Directors, said, The OGC community is extremely fortunate that these extraordinary individuals have agreed to serve on the Consortium’s board.
