OGC Seeks Comments on Open GeoSMS – Candidate Standard for Location in Short Message Service

25 March 2011 – The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC®) seeks public comment on the candidate OGC Open GeoSMS Standard – Core. The candidate OGC Open GeoSMS Standard allows applications to location enable Short Message Service (SMS).Open GeoSMS enables developers to use extended Short Message Service (SMS) to facilitate communication of location content between different LBS (Location-Based Service) devices or applications. The candidate OGC Open GeoSMS Standard can be found at: http://www.opengeospatial.org/standards/requests/76.OGC Standards empower technology developers to make geospatial information and services accessible and useful with any application that needs to be geospatially enabled.

OGC Seeks Comments on Ordering Service Candidate Standard

January 24, 2011 – The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC®) seeks public comment on the candidate OGC Ordering Services for Earth Observation Products Interface Standard. This candidate interface standard defines interfaces for ordering products derived from Earth observation satellites. This candidate standard is designed to work with the OGC Sensor Web Enablement (SWE) suite of standards. For the modelling of ordering options the SWE Common specification has been selected and some elements are shared with the OGC Sensor Planning Service Interface Standard (SPS).The candidate OGC Ordering Services for Earth Observation Products Interface Standard can be found at: http://www.opengeospatial.org/standards/requests/75.

OGC announces Table Join Service Standard

10 December 2010 – The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC®) announces adoption and availability of the OGC Georeferenced Table Joining Service (TJS) Implementation Standard, Version 1.0.The TJS standard is available for free download at http://www.opengeospatial.org/standards/tjs.The OGC TJS standard defines an interface for services that provide the ability to join attribute data stored in one database on a network with corresponding geometry (points, lines, or polygons) stored in another network accessible database.OGC Standards support interoperable solutions that geo-enable the Web, wireless and location-based services, and mainstream IT.OGC Standards empower technology developers to make geospatial information and services accessible and useful with any application that needs to be geospatially enabled.

OGC Videos Highlight GEOs progress implementing GEOSS

December 2, 2010 – The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC®), as part of its lead role in the Architecture Implementation Pilot for the Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS), announced videos showing the remarkable progress that has been made in implementing GEOSS.The videos were prepared for the GEO Ministerial Summit and GEO VII Plenary, held 3-5 November 2010 in Beijing, China.OGC standards along with other open standards and common practices have been used to create the GEOSS Common Infrastructure. The GEOSS Architecture Progress video (5 minutes) (http://www.ogcnetwork.net/GeossArchProg) provides an overview of the substantial progress made so far in implementing the bold plan established five years ago to build GEOSS.OGC Standards support interoperable solutions that geo-enable the Web, wireless and location-based services, and mainstream IT.

OGC offers value-added Membership for Governments around the World

The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC®) announced a new revised Associate Membership option for local and state/provincial government agencies worldwide. The new OGC GovFuture membership category (http://www.opengeospatial.org/ogc/join/levels#associate) reflects the OGCs increased emphasis on knowledge transfer as OGC standards become widely accepted in the marketplace. The OGC GovFuture membership category includes Local Government and Subnational Government membership levels. The OGC GovFuture program aims to create a worldwide knowledge base relevant to Governments at all levels in all countries.OGC Standards empower technology developers to make geospatial information and services accessible and useful with any application that needs to be geospatially enabled.

OGC Calls for Participation in Major Geo Standards Testbed

The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC®) has issued a Request for Quotations/Call for Participation (RFQ/CFP) for the OGC Web Services, Phase 8 (OWS-8) Interoperability Initiative, a testbed to advance OGCs open interoperability framework for geospatial capabilities. The goal of the fusion threads is to move those capabilities into a distributed architecture based on open standards including standards for notifications, authentication, and workflow processing. In OGCs Interoperability Initiatives, international teams of technology providers work together to solve specific geoprocessing interoperability problems posed by the Initiatives Sponsors.OGC Interoperability Initiatives include testbeds, pilot projects, interoperability experiments and interoperability support services – all designed to encourage rapid development, testing, validation and adoption of OGC standards.OGC Standards support interoperable solutions that geo-enable the Web, wireless and location-based services, and mainstream IT.

OGC announces Web Coverage Service 2.0 Standard

16 November 2010 – The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC®) announces adoption and availability of the OGC Web Coverage Service (WCS) Interface Standard, Version 2.0.The WCS 2.0 standard is available for free download at http://www.opengeospatial.org/standards/wcs.The OGC WCS 2.0 standard defines a standard interface and operations that enable interoperable access to geospatial coverages. The WCS 2.0 standard has several significant enhancements over previous versions.WCS 2.0 is harmonized with the Geography Markup Language (GML) coverage model, leading to increased interoperability across OGC standards.

OGC Forms Publish/Subscribe Standards Working Group

The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC®) announces the formation of an OGC Web Services (OWS) Publish/Subscribe (PubSub) Standards Working Group (SWG).Various use cases have been studied that require the combination of OGC Web Service (OWS) standards and Information Technology (IT) standards that support publish/subscribe service functionality, such as OASIS Web Services Notification (WS-N) and ATOM.The new OGC PubSub standard will define how established IT standards are to be used to enable publish/subscribe functionality in OGC services.OGC Standards support interoperable solutions that geo-enable the Web, wireless and location-based services, and mainstream IT.OGC Standards empower technology developers to make geospatial information and services useful with any application that needs to be geospatially enabled.

OGC Forms GeoSynchronization Services Standards Working Group

The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC®) announces the formation of a GeoSynchronization Service Standards Working Group (SWG).Frequently, geospatial content providers must collaborate with outside entities to collect new data and/or update their existing data holdings.Another case is when content providers are crowd-sourcing (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crowdsourcing) their data production or supporting volunteer geographic information (VGI).OGC Standards support interoperable solutions that geo-enable the Web, wireless and location-based services, and mainstream IT.OGC Standards empower technology developers to make geospatial information and services accessible and useful with any application that needs to be geospatially enabled.
