The OGC Seeks Participants for Authentication Interoperability Experiment

The Open Geospatial Consortium Inc. (OGC) will launch an Authentication Interoperability Experiment on 2 October, 2009.The Authentication Interoperability Experiment will test standard ways of transferring authentication information between OGC clients and OGC services using existing mechanisms such as HTTP Authentication, HTTP Cookies, SSL/X509, SAML, Shibboleth, OpenID and WS-Security.The purpose of this experiment is to develop a candidate OGC Best Practices document that documents standard ways of performing authentication in applications that implement OGC Web Services standards.The OGC members that are acting as initiators of the Interoperability Experiment are CubeWerx, Sierra Systems Group, Inc. and others.The planned start date for the Authentication Interoperability Experiment is 2 October, 2009.

CCIP Call for Participation and FOSS4G Early Registration deadlines approach

The Open Geospatial Consortium, Inc. (OGC®), the Australian Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) and the Open Source Geospatial Foundation (OSGeo) are conducting a Climate Challenge Integration Plugfest (CCIP) to be launched at the FOSS4G (Free, Open Source Software for Geomatics) Conference in Sydney, Australia, 20-23 October, 2009 (http://2009.foss4g.org).CCIP Participants are invited to deploy services that implement OGC standards, or clients for such services.Participation is encouraged by commercial entities as well as free and open source projects.Companies or individuals interested in participating should respond to the CCIP Call for Participation at http://external.opengis.org/twiki_public/bin/view/ClimateChallenge2009/CcipCFP by August 10, 2009.The Open Source Geospatial Foundation (OSGeo) (http://osgeo.org) has been created to support and build the highest-quality open source geospatial software.

European Space Agency Implements OGC Standards in Major Program

Wayland, Mass., July 23, 2009 – The European Space Agency (ESA) has implemented OGC’s geospatial interoperability standards in interfaces and encodings that are essential parts of the Heterogeneous Mission Accessibility (HMA) initiative.HMA is ESAs interoperability framework for coordinated data discovery and access set up in collaboration with the European and Canadian Space Agencies of the GSCB.GMES is the European Initiative for the establishment of a European capacity for Earth Observation.The OGC® is an international consortium of more than 385 companies, government agencies, research organizations, and universities participating in a consensus process to develop publicly available geospatial standards.OGC Standards empower technology developers to make geospatial information and services accessible and useful with any application that needs to be geospatially enabled.

The OGC Publishes Policies Regarding OGC URNs, Compliance tests, and Standard Writing

Results of AECOO-1 Testbed Are Available Online as Streaming Video

OGC Releases OWS-6 Interoperability Testbed Videos

The Open Geospatial Consortium, Inc. (OGC®) announces the release of on-line videos (http://www.opengeospatial.org/pub/www/ows6/index.html) that document the recent final interoperability demonstration of the OGC Web Services Initiative, Phase 6 (OWS-6) Testbed.The AIM demonstration showed the use of web services for flight navigation, taking into account weather, diversions, and other event notifications.The videos are complemented by a series of OGC Engineering Reports that define in more detail the web services interoperability capability and architecture advanced for each of the above mentioned focus areas.OGC and prospective sponsors are planning the next OGC Web Services Initiative, OWS-7, which is expected to begin in the fall and end next summer (details to be announced).OGC Standards empower technology developers to make geospatial information and services accessible and useful with any application that needs to be geospatially enabled.

OGC Calls for Industry Input on Geospatial Fusion

OGC Issues RFQ and Call for Participation in NGA “Plug Week” Pilot

The sponsor, the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA), will provide profiles of the OGC Web Map Service, Web Feature Service and Web Coverage Service Interface Standards.With the help of Plugweek participants, the NGA will examine the suitability and performance of these profiles and corresponding profile compliance tests.The NGA is providing cost-sharing funds and seeks to involve as many participants as possible.Participants will use the profiles mentioned above and also schemas and data provided by the NGA.Non-member proposals will be considered if a completed application for OGC membership accompanies or precedes a letter of intent to submit a proposal.

David Danko Receives OGC’s Gardels Award

At the June meeting of the Open Geospatial Consortium, Inc. (OGC®) in Cambridge, Massachusetts, David Danko received the OGCs 11th annual Kenneth D. Gardels Award (http://www.opengeospatial.org/ogc/awards).The Gardels Award is awarded to individuals who have made significant contributions in advancing the OGC vision of complete integration of geospatial information and services into the worlds information systems.Danko helped draft the OGC abstract specification for metadata and has long chaired the Metadata Working Group.In all committees and working groups, Danko has consistently set a high standard for serious, mature and professional input.The Gardels Award is given annually in memory of Kenneth Gardels, a founding director of OGC and OGCs former director of academic programs.
