OGC Announces Another Membership Category – Aggregate Membership Serves Collaborating Entities

Wayland, Mass., December 17, 2007 – The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC®) announces a new category of membership, Aggregate Membership.It enables collaborating entities to bring their common issues and perspectives into the OGC process of developing interoperability standards.Mark Reichardt, president of OGC, said, Government entities must collaborate in order to serve and protect the citizenry, so they are at the forefront in identifying interoperability issues.This new kind of membership will enable OGC to benefit from their front-line experience, and to prioritize its activities to solve these interoperability issues.OGC Standards empower technology developers to make geospatial information and services accessible and useful with any application that needs to be geospatially enabled.

GSDI 10 Conference Early Registration Ends December 15!

Core Services Initiative Will Advance Emergency Communications

COMCARE has designed two Core services to meet this need; an Emergency Provider Access Directory agency locator service and identity management/access control service.The Core Services Initiative will have three phases.During the second phase, a Core Services Interoperability Pilot will be conducted using OGCs proven piloting process to standards-enable the services to demonstrate interoperability of the Core Services with standards-based geospatial, sensor, location-based services, and other technologies for improved situational awareness.A third phase will emphasize field trials of the Core Services, showcasing their all hazards capabilities in real world settings.The end result will be tested core services that companies can competitively offer to the emergency response community in a standardized manner.

The OGC Will Exhibit at AEC-ST Conference

The OGC Seeks Comment on OGC Candidate KML 2.2 Standard

The Open Geospatial Consortium, Inc. (OGC®) seeks public comment on a draft OpenGIS® Encoding Standard (OGC KML) for KML 2.2, a XML-based encoding schema for expressing geographic annotation and visualization on existing or future web-based online maps (2d) and Earth browsers (3d).The draft OGC KML 2.2 standard formalizes the KML 2.2 model and language while remaining backwards compatible with existing KML 2.2 files.In comparison with the Google KML 2.2 Reference, the draft standard defines:the KML 2.2 geometry encoding and interpolation model;an extension model in support of application profiles;conformance requirements and test cases.The draft OpenGIS KML v2.2 Encoding Standard is available at http://www.opengeospatial.org/standards/requests/45.OGC Standards empower technology developers to make geospatial information and services accessible and useful with any application.

The OGC Seeks Comment on Proposed Sensor Alert Service (SAS) Standard

– The Open Geospatial Consortium, Inc. (OGC®) seeks public comment on a draft Sensor Alert Service (SAS) Standard.The draft OGC® Sensor Alert Service standard defines an alert and notification mechanism that specifies how alert or alarm conditions are defined, detected, and made available to interested users.The Sensor Alert Service uses the Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol (XMPP) to provide the push-based notification functionality.This draft standard can be downloaded from http://www.opengeospatial.org/standards/requests/44.OGC Standards empower technology developers to make geospatial information and services accessible and useful with any application that needs to be geospatially enabled.

Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) Adds Microsoft as Principal Member
