A key goal for the development of the CityGML Conceptual Model is to provide a common definition of the basic entities, attributes, and relations of a semantically rich 3D city model.CityGML 3.0 keeps key concepts of the previous version and makes the implementation of CityGML more versatile.The CityGML 3.0 Conceptual Model is a Platform Independent Model (PIM).The candidate CityGML 3.0 Conceptual Model is available for review and comment on the OGC Portal.Comments are due by the 28th of January, 2021, and should be submitted via the method outlined on the CityGML 3.0 Conceptual Model’s public comment request page.

Charles Heazel receives OGC’s 2020 Gardels Award

Congratulations to Charles “Chuck” Heazel awarded the 2020 Gardels Award for their continued contributions to the creation and advancement of OGC StandardsAt the December Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) Member Meeting, held virtually, Charles “Chuck” Heazel was presented the OGC’s prestigious Kenneth D. Gardels Award.The Gardels Award is presented each year to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to advancing OGCs vision of fully integrating geospatial information into the worlds information systems.Chuck’s technical expertise, understanding of the specific needs of many domains, and concern with ensuring that interoperability can be fully realized, exemplify the values associated with the Gardels Award.Award nominations are made by members – the prior Gardels Award winners – and approved by the Board of Directors.OGC’s member-driven consensus process creates royalty free, publicly available geospatial standards.

OGC Calls for Participation in its Next Major Innovation Testbed (Testbed-17); Funding Available for Participants

Draft specifications developed in Testbeds eventually move into the OGC Standards Program, where they are reviewed, revised, and potentially approved as new international open standards that can reach millions of individuals.Prototype solutions will implement existing OGC standards as well as new prototype interface and encoding specifications introduced or developed in Testbed-17.Specifications may become official, member approved OGC standards, revisions to existing OGC standards, or best practices for using OGC standards.Further information about Testbed-17 is also available on the OGC Testbed-17 webpage.OGC members together form a global forum of experts and communities that use location to connect people with technology and improve decision-making at all levels.

OGC Community approves new OGC API standard: OGC API – Features – Part 2: Coordinate Reference Systems by Reference

OGC API – Features provides the fundamental API building blocks to create, modify, and query ‘features’ on the Web.The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) is excited to announce the adoption of the latest of its OGC API family of standards: OGC API – Features – Part 2: Coordinate Reference Systems by Reference.The OGC API family of standards defines modular API building blocks to spatially enable Web APIs in a consistent way.OGC API – Features provides the fundamental API building blocks to create, modify, and query ‘features’ on the Web (features are simply the digital representations of objects of interest in the real world).As with any OGC standard, the open OGC API – Features – Part 2: Coordinate Reference Systems by Reference standard is free to download and implement.
