OGC invites you to indulge in a SELFIE: the Second Environmental Linked Features Interoperability Experiment

SELFIE aims to create a standards-based method to publish and use linked data thats compatible with current web development/W3C best practicesThe Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) invites interested members & non-members to participate in OGC’s Second Environmental Linked Feature Interoperability Experiment (SELFIE).A common approach to encoding such links is required to allow cross-domain and cross-system sharing and interoperability of such linked information. The Experiment produced the public OGC Environmental Linked Features Interoperability Experiment Engineering Report summarizing the overall cross-domain, inter-standard findings and recommendations for a best practice and/or standard that should follow. If you are interested in participating in the Second Environmental Linked Feature Interoperability Experiment (SELFIE), please contact techdesk [at] opengeospatial.org .To learn more about SELFIE, including details concerning the kickoff telecon, visit the Second Environmental Linked Feature Interoperability Experiment (SELFIE) webpage on OGCs website.

OGC requests public comment on draft charter for new Portrayal Domain Working Group

The Portrayal DWG is being established to maintain consistency in the portrayal of geospatial data across a host of new technologies, including 3D, gaming & simulation, and augmented realityThe Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) seeks public comment on the draft Charter for a proposed Portrayal Domain Working Group (DWG).Many of these technology advances are currently being considered across several OGC Domain and Standards Working Groups. The Portrayal Domain Working Group, therefore, will bring together a community to define a common portrayal framework, provide direction to portrayal Standards Working Groups, and provide guidance to other Domain Working Groups on portrayal concerns. The Portrayal Domain Working Group draft charter is available for review and comment on the OGC Portal.Comments are due by 7th March 2019 and should be submitted via the method outlined on the Portrayal Domain Working Group draft charter request page.

OGC Seeks Public Comment on MetOcean profile and extensions to WCS 2.1

Extension to and Profile for WCS 2.1 will enable MetOcean community to efficiently query and access required data contained in datacubesThe Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) seeks public comment on the MetOcean profile and extensions to WCS 2.1.The Meteorological and Oceanography (MetOcean) community works with massive datacubes of content organized in 4-dimensional space and time. The community has developed a new profile and two new extensions to WCS 2.1 to address MetOcean requirements. The MetOcean Profile fully exploits the multi-dimensional nature of WCS2.1, which is built on the new OGC Coverage Implementation Schema (CIS) 1.1.The candidate MetOcean profile and extensions to WCS 2.1 is available for review and comment on the MetOcean profile and extensions to WCS 2.1 request page.

OGC adopts 3D Tiles as Community Standard

3D Tiles Community Standard is designed for streaming massive heterogeneous 3D geospatial datasets for visualizationThe membership of the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) has approved the 3D Tiles Specification 1.0 for adoption as an OGC Community Standard.3D tiles, submitted to the OGC by a team led by Cesium, is designed for streaming heterogenous 3D geospatial content to clients for visualization. The tile formats are:Batched 3D Models – for 3D buildings, photogrammetry, BIM/CAD models, etc.As with any OGC standard, the open 3D Tiles community standard is free to download and implement.Interested parties can view and download the standard on the OGC’s 3D Tiles Community Standard Page.

OGC invites you to participate in its UML-to-GML Application Schema Initiative (UGAS-2019)

Initiative aims to enhance the automated conversion of UML models to OWLThe Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) invites interested members & non-members to participate in OGC’s UML-to-GML Application Schema Initiative (UGAS-2019).This research driven initiative builds on previous OGC Testbed efforts to develop techniques and tools for the development of Resource Description Framework (RDF) based schemas from ISO 19109-conformant application schemas. To learn more about this Initiative, including how to join, please visit the UML-to-GML Application Schema Initiative (UGAS-2019) webpage or contact techdesk [at] opengeospatial.org.OGC standards support interoperable solutions that ‘geo-enable’ the Web, wireless and location-based services, and mainstream IT.OGC standards empower technology developers to make geospatial information and services accessible and useful within any application that needs to be geospatially enabled.
