OGC announces the creation of a new Domain Working Group for Interoperable Simulation and Gaming

New OGC Working Group has the goal of evaluating how standards will enable the modeling, simulation, and gaming communities to mutually benefit from ongoing technological developments. The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) announces its latest Domain Working Group (DWG) – the Interoperable Simulation and Gaming DWG.OGC members and non-members alike who are actively working within the simulation and gaming community, and especially those developing interoperable solutions, are invited to participate in the Interoperable Simulation and Gaming Domain Working Group.Visit the Interoperable Simulation and Gaming DWG home page for more information on the group, including how to participate.See the OGC’s Domain Working Group and Standards Working Group pages to learn about other standards activities that are ongoing in the OGC.

OGC Calls for Participation in Vector Tiles Pilot

OGC Vector Tiles Pilot will create extensions for use in OGC Web Services, GeoPackage, and supply a conceptual abstract model that can be used across OGC standardsThe Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) has released a Call for Participation to solicit proposals for the OGC Vector Tiles Pilot Initiative.Vector Tiles are an emerging technology that packages geographic data into predefined roughly-square shaped ‘tiles’ for efficient transfer over the web.Vector Tiles provide an efficient and effective method of delivering GeoINT data that can be queried and edited while remaining compact in file size. The expected encoding of Vector Tiles include:Google Protocol Buffers (a.k.a., protobuf) as defined by Mapbox Vector Tiles GeoJSONMore information on the Pilot, including the Call for Participation, is available on the OGC Vector Tiles Pilot Initiative Webpage.About the OGC Innovation ProgramThis Initiative is being conducted under the OGC Innovation Program.

OGC seeks public comment on proposed Statistical Domain Working Group

New OGC DWG seeks to identify how geospatial and statistical standards can support the integration of geospatial information into the statistical system. The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) seeks comments on the draft charter of a proposed Statistical Domain Working Group (DWG).Comments are due by 26 July 2018 and should be submitted via the method outlined at Statistical Domain Working Group requests page.See the OGC’s Domain Working Group and Standards Working Group pages to learn about other standards activities that are ongoing in the OGC.OGC standards support interoperable solutions that ‘geo-enable’ the Web, wireless and location-based services, and mainstream IT.

OGC Seeks Public Comment on new version of OpenSearch for Earth Observation Suite of Standards

Revision to OpenSearch extension for Earth Observation related searches includes two new encodings of the extension model using GeoJSON and JSON-LD.The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) seeks public comment on the latest version of the OpenSearch for Earth Observation (OpenSearch-EO) Suite of Standards. These standards further integrate with the OGC Standards Baseline in that the GeoJSON responses are provided as OWS Context documents. The candidate OpenSearch for Earth Observation suite of standards is available for review and comment on the OGC Portal.Comments are due by 3 August 2018 and should be submitted via the method outlined on the OpenSearch for Earth Observation Suite of Standards’ request page.

OGC Seeks Public Comment on WFS 3.0 Candidate Standard

The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) seeks public comment on the latest version of the Web Feature Service standard: WFS 3.0.An OGC Web Feature Service (WFS) offers the capability to retrieve, create, modify and query spatial data on the Web.As a result of this modernization, WFS 3.0 implementations will not be backwards compatible with WFS 2.0 implementations per se.However, a design goal is to define WFS 3.0 in a way so that the WFS 3.0 interface can be mapped to an WFS 2.0 implementation.WFS 3.0 is intended to be simpler and more modern, but still an evolution from the previous versions and their implementations.

OGC Seeks Public Comment on 3D Tiles Candidate Community Standard

3D Tiles Community Standard is designed for streaming massive heterogeneous 3D geospatial datasets for visualizationThe Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) seeks public comment on the 3D Tiles Specification 1.0 candidate Community standard.3D Tiles is a publicly available open specification for streaming massive heterogeneous 3D geospatial datasets for visualization.A Community Standard is an official standard of the OGC that is developed and maintained external to the OGC.In 2016, OGC approved a work item on endorsing 3D Tiles as an OGC Community Standard, and now this effort is ready for consideration for approval by OGC members. The candidate 3D Tiles Specification 1.0 community standard is available for review and comment on the OGC Portal.

OGC seeks public comment on Part 1 of the Features and Geometries Candidate Standard

The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) seeks public comment on Part 1 of the Features and Geometry candidate standard. The Features and Geometries candidate standard provides the requirements for defining and representing geographic features in geographic information systems, applications, databases, and data formats. The Features and Geometry standard describes semantically-structured data sets aimed to represent reality, not the specific needs of a single application. The candidate Features and Geometries standard is available for review and comment on the OGC Portal.OGC standards support interoperable solutions that ‘geo-enable’ the Web, wireless and location-based services, and mainstream IT.

OGC seeks public comment on Tile Matrix Set Candidate Standard

The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) seeks public comment on the Tile Matrix Set candidate standard.A Tile Matrix Set defines a tile indexing pyramidal system to allow easy retrieval of the appropriate tiles by a mapping service. In a tile matrix set, a tile can be uniquely identified by a tile column, a tile row, and a tile matrix identifier. The Tile Matrix Set candidate standard decouples the concept of a tile matrix set from the WMTS standards so that any standard or application that requires the use of a tile matrix set can reference the concept directly. The candidate Tile Matrix Set standard is available for review and comment on the OGC Portal.

OGC calls for participation its Borehole & Associated Data Interoperability Experiment

The Borehole IE will define a domain-neutral semantic for a general concept of boreholeThe Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) invites interested members & non-members alike to participate in the OGC Borehole & Associated Data Interoperability Experiment (The Borehole IE).Even though several standards already exist to describe a borehole, its associated data and their position along a borehole (including OGC standards), they all restrict themselves to a specific viewpoint. The Borehole Interoperability Experiment will define a domain-neutral semantic for a general concept of borehole and produce a public OGC Engineering Report summarizing the overall cross-domain, inter-standard findings plus recommendations for a best practice implementation that should follow. If you would like to participate in the Borehole Interoperability Experiment, please contact techdesk [at] opengeospatial.org by July 13th, 2018.OGC standards support interoperable solutions that ‘geo-enable’ the Web, wireless and location-based services, and mainstream IT.
