OGC Requesting Responses to its Portrayal Concept Development Study

This new OGC CDS is the first step in improving the way that geospatial data is visually represented in web mapsThe Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) announces the Portrayal Concept Development Study (CDS).Additionally, the poor presentation of spatial data creates a negative perception of data quality, spatial data infrastructures, and web standards alike. The Portrayal CDS is looking to the OGC membership and beyond to help define the future direction of portrayal and digital cartographic practices within the OGC and beyond.About OGCThe Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) is an international consortium of more than 525 companies, government agencies, research organizations, and universities participating in a consensus process to develop publicly available geospatial standards.OGC standards empower technology developers to make geospatial information and services accessible and useful within any application that needs to be geospatially enabled.

OGC Announces Disasters Interoperability Concept Development Study

The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) has announced the Disasters Interoperability Concept Development Study (CDS).The OGC is inviting anyone who provides and/or uses geospatial data or products connected to disasters to participate in a series of workshops this year.Geospatial information has been proven effective in supporting both the understanding of and response to disasters.OGC standards support interoperable solutions that ‘geo-enable’ the Web, wireless and location-based services, and mainstream IT.OGC standards empower technology developers to make geospatial information and services accessible and useful within any application that needs to be geospatially enabled.

OGC Announces European Space Agency Invitation to Tender for Testbed 14 Thematic Exploitation Platforms

The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC®) invites interested organizations to respond to Part 2 of the OGC Testbed 14 Call for Participation.Part 2 concerns the European Space Agencys Exploitation Platforms, which is part of the Testbed 14 Earth Observations & Cloud (EOC) Thread.Organizations selected to participate in Testbed 14 will develop prototype solutions based on the sponsors’ use cases, requirements, and scenarios.Prototype specifications may ultimately become official, member approved OGC standards, revisions to existing OGC standards, or best practices for using OGC standards. For more information on Testbed 14, the OGC CFP, and ESA’s ITT, please visit the Testbed 14 webpage or contact Scott Serich, Director Innovation Programs (techdesk [at] opengeospatial.org).

OGC is seeking sponsors for Phase 2 of its Future Cities Pilot Project

The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) is seeking interested Sponsors to define the challenges for Phase 2 of the successful Future Cities Pilot Project.About the OGC Innovation ProgramThe OGC Innovation Program provides global, hands-on, collaborative prototyping for rapid development and delivery of proven candidate specifications to the OGC Standards Program, where these candidates can then be considered for further action.More information on the OGC Innovation Program, including its policies and procedures, can be found at http://www.opengeospatial.org/ogc/policies/ippp.OGC standards support interoperable solutions that ‘geo-enable’ the Web, wireless and location-based services, and mainstream IT.OGC standards empower technology developers to make geospatial information and services accessible and useful within any application that needs to be geospatially enabled.

OGC Calls for Participation in Major Innovation Testbed (Testbed 14)

OGC’s 14th Testbed aims to explore new levels of interoperable geospatial data processing using core Web principlesThe Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) invites interested organizations to respond to the Call for Participation (CFP) in the OGC Testbed 14 Interoperability Testbed.Organizations selected to participate in Testbed 14 will develop prototype solutions based on the sponsors’ use cases, requirements and scenarios.Participants’ prototype solutions will implement existing OGC standards as well as new prototype interface and encoding specifications introduced or developed in Testbed 14.Prototype specifications may ultimately become official, member approved OGC standards, revisions to existing OGC standards, or best practices for using OGC standards.Anyone interested in learning more about, or participating in, Testbed 14 should contact Scott Serich, Director Innovation Programs (techdesk [at] opengeospatial.org).

Data Model Development led by Fund for the City of New York advances OGC’s Underground Pilot Project

The utility data models that are being developed through the OGC Innovation Program include water, sewer, gas, electric, telecommunications, district heating, and transit. This effort is critical to launching the OGC’s Underground Infrastructure Pilot Project. The pilot will create, test, and validate a reusable, standards-based underground information architecture that will enable cities to rapidly advance their smart underground projects. If you want an innovative solution to your organisation’s underground data problem, OGC urges you to contact Scott Serich, Director of the Underground Pilot: sserich [at] opengeospatial.org.OGC standards empower technology developers to make geospatial information and services accessible and useful with any application that needs to be geospatially enabled.

OGC seeks public comment on CDB Multi-spectral Imagery Extension

The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) is seeking public comment on its candidate CDB Multi-spectral Imagery Extension standard. The Multi-Spectral Imagery extension defines how to encode and store reflected electromagnetic radiation from the infrared wavelengths into a CDB data store. The CDB Multi-spectral Imagery Extension seeks to enable the storage of this data in a CDB data store.Several current commercial satellites collect NIR imagery, and several government satellites collect multiple bands of both NIR and SWIR imagery. The candidate OGC CDB Multi-spectral Imagery Extension Standard is available for review and comment at https://portal.ogc.org/files/76592.

OGC Calls for Sponsors for Augmented Reality Pilot Project

Joint OGC and W3C Pilot project will propose standards to unite Augmented Reality, Web, and Geospatial technologies.(Image from Wikitude)The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC), and the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), together are calling for sponsors for an upcoming Augmented Reality (AR) Pilot Project that seeks to advance W3C and OGC standards related to Augmented Reality. The OGC and W3C AR Pilot Project aims to help solve these problems.A video about the benefits of the OGC Innovation Program is available here.Benefits to Sponsors of the W3C OGC AR Pilot include:Assess and affect market direction based on your and other sponsor organisations’ needs.
