26 December 2016: The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC®) is calling to vendors doing business in India for participation in its latest Interoperability Plugfest. The Department of Science and Technology (DST), under Government of India, is interested in planning and convening an Indian OGC Interoperability Plugfest.OGC Plugfests benefit participants in the following ways:Proven multi-vendor interoperability in your productIncreased confidence in OGC specificationsI ncreased confidence in your implementationReinforce your market claims with actionTo learn more about the OGC Indian Interoperability Plugfest, visit www.opengeospatial.org/projects/initiatives/indianplugfest.OGC standards support interoperable solutions that geo-enable the Web, wireless and location based services, and mainstream IT.OGC standards empower technology developers to make geospatial information and services accessible and useful with any application that needs to be geospatially enabled.

OGC requests public comment on its Coverage Implementation Schema – ReferenceableGridCoverage Extension

The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC®) seeks public comment on the OGC Coverage Implementation Schema (CIS) – ReferenceableGridCoverage Extension. This OGC Extension provides a set of native referenceable grid elements to be used with the OGC CIS 1.0 coverage standard.Geospatial imagery software packages with support for sensor model standards may be easily updated to use OGC sensor model imagery. An open-source package that already has such support for OGC sensor model imagery is OSSIM from osgeo.org.OGC standards empower technology developers to make geospatial information and services accessible and useful with any application that needs to be geospatially enabled.

OGC invites participation in Electromagnetic Spectrum Domain Working Group

28 November 2016 – The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC®) is calling for participation in its newly established Electromagnetic Spectrum Domain Working Group (EM Spectrum DWG).After reviewing requirements, the group may charter an OGC Standards Working Group to develop the standard data model and encodings. The OGC Electromagnetic Spectrum Domain Working Group will provide an important coordination and harmonization function for future studies of frequency interference.See the OGC EM Spectrum DWG wiki at http://external.opengeospatial.org/twiki_public/EMSpectrumDWG.See the OGC’s Domain Working Group page and Standards Working Group page to learn about other standards activities that are ongoing in the OGC.

OGC invites you to its Testbed 12 demonstration and exposition

The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC®) is inviting members and the public to attend the OGC Testbed 12 demonstration and exposition of the technology developed during its latest Interoperability Program initiative on 29 November 2016 at the USGS in Reston, Virginia. The event will showcase the results starting with an hour-long demonstration of some of the technologies developed during Testbed 12.For more information on the Testbed 12 Demonstration and Exposition, including registration details, please visit: https://portal.ogc.org/public_ogc/register/t12demo.phpAbout the OGC Interoperability ProgramThe OGC Interoperability Program provides global, hands-on, collaborative prototyping for rapid development and delivery of proven candidate specifications to the OGC Standards Program, where these candidates can then be considered for further action. In Interoperability Program initiatives, participants team together to solve specific geo-processing interoperability problems posed by the initiative’s Sponsors.More information on the The OGC Interoperability Program, including its policies and procedures, can be found at http://www.opengeospatial.org/ogc/policies/ippp.

OGC seeks public comment on a proposed work item for Indexed 3D Scene Layers as a Community standard work item

The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC®) is considering start of a new work item for a Community Standard: Indexed 3D Scene Layers (I3S).The Indexed 3D Scene Layers (I3S) delivery format is used to stream 3D geospatial content to mobile, web and desktop clients.A document has been prepared that provides a justification to the OGC Technical Committee (TC) for consideration of I3S as a Community standard. This justification, along with the submitted candidate Community standard, will form the basis for TC review and vote to approve the start of the Community standard process.OGC standards empower technology developers to make geospatial information and services accessible and useful with any application that needs to be geospatially enabled.

OGC Requests comments on proposed Quality of Service and Experience DWG

The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC®) requests comments on the charter for a proposed Quality of Service and Experience (QoSE) Domain Working Group (DWG).Spatial data now plays a critical role in the smooth functioning of contemporary society. The closely related fields of Quality of Service (QoS) and Quality of Experience (QoE) deal with estimating, reporting, and improving the experienced quality of communication between the components of distributed systems to inform the SDI users of the suitability of the service for the users’ needs.OGC standards support interoperable solutions that geo-enable the Web, wireless and location based services, and mainstream IT.OGC standards empower technology developers to make geospatial information and services accessible and useful with any application that needs to be geospatially enabled.

OGC approves Standard for use in the Modeling and Simulation World

The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC®) membership has approved CDB as an OGC standard. The OGC CDB standard is based on and derived from an industry developed and maintained specification for the modeling and simulation community. The standard addresses the challenge of full plug-and-play interoperability and reuse of geospatial data in a modeling and simulation environment. The application of the CDB standard to future simulator architectures will significantly reduce development, update, and configuration management timelines. The CDB standard is in the process of being published and will soon be available from www.opengeospatial.org.

OGC supports American Geographical Society’s 2016 Fall Symposium, Geography 2050

The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC®) and symposium partners the American Geographical Society (AGS), the Earth Institute, GEO, and USGIF will present the 2016 AGS Fall Symposium, Geography 2050: Envisioning A Sustainable Planet on November 17-18, 2016.The 2016 Fall Symposium of the American Geographical Society is the third in a multi-year strategic dialog about the vital trends that will reshape the geography of our planet by 2050.About the American Geographical SocietyEstablished in 1851, the American Geographical Society (AGS) is the oldest professional geographical/geospatial organization in the United States.AGS provides leadership to frame the national discussion of the growing importance of geography and geo-spatial tools.OGC standards empower technology developers to make geospatial information and services accessible and useful with any application that needs to be geospatially enabled.
