OGC requests comment on charter for Coordinate Reference System Standards Working Group

Members of the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC®) request comments on the draft charter for an OGC Coordinate Reference System (CRS) Standards Working Group (SWG).The purpose of the OGC SWG is to revise Abstract Specification Topic 2 – Spatial Referencing by Coordinates to the state of an adopted OGC standard and an identical ISO International Standard.In the interests of interoperability ISO and OGC standards need to remain aligned.OGC standards support interoperable solutions that geo-enable the Web, wireless and location based services, and mainstream IT.OGC standards empower technology developers to make geospatial information and services accessible and useful with any application that needs to be geospatially enabled.

OGC seeks public comment on update of OGC® Abstract Specification Topic 11: Metadata from ISO 19115:2003 to ISO 19115:2014

The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC®) requests public comment on the update of OGC Abstract Specification Topic 11: Metadata from ISO 19115:2003 to ISO 19115:2014.The OGC and ISO TC / 211, who is maintaining ISO 19115, are committed to aligning standards when possible.Many OGC standards are adopted into ISO, and OGC references fundamental ISO Standards as part of its own Standards Baseline.The ISO 19115 metadata Standard was updated in 2014 and numerous organizations now mandate the use of this most recent version.OGC proposes to update its baseline Abstract Specification Topic 11 (Metadata) to this most recent version of ISO 19115.

OGC publishes Testbed 11 Geospatial Information Management Engineering Reports

14 March 2016 – The OGC Members recently approved release of all the public OGC Engineering Reports that resulted from the 2015 OGC Interoperability Testbed 11.While OGC Engineering Reports are not standards, the information they contains is intended to be useful to both developers of OGC standards and implementers of OGC standards.The non-Aviation OGC Testbed 11 Engineering Reports cover these topics:Aviation (See OGC publishes Testbed 11 Aviation Information Management Engineering Reports)Urban-Climate ResilienceOGC Testbed 11 GeoPackaging Engineering Report: Describes an approach for the use of various standards to achieve the creation and synchronization of SQLite databases that conform to the OGC GeoPackage standard.OGC Testbed 11 High Resolution Flood Information Scenario Engineering Report: Describes the high-resolution flood information scenario carried out under the Urban Climate Resilience Thread of the Testbed 11 Initiative.The reports will become Discussion Papers, candidate OGC standards, revisions to existing OGC standards, or best practices for using OGC standards and related standards from other standards development organizations.

OGC announces successful completion of Incident Management Information Sharing IoT Pilot

8 March 2016: The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC®) has announced the recent successful completion of the OGC Incident Management Information Sharing Internet of Things Pilot Project (IMIS IoT Pilot).The IMIS IoT Pilot was sponsored by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology Directorate (S&T) and the IJIS Institute.Rapid integration of information from diverse information sources such as IoT sensors plays a key role in responding to emergencies and disasters.The IMIS IoT Pilot demonstrated how all of this is possible today.The sponsors and the OGC thank the technology providers that participated in the IMIS IoT Pilot and produced the reports.

OGC announces Oil Spill Response Common Operating Picture recommended practice

As stated in the report, Responding to an oil spill requires access to and understanding of many types of information.Recent oil spills have provided lessons learned and recommendations on forming a Common Operating Picture for oil spill response.Resource Data, Inc.
